I’m a wolf in wolf’s clothing, and I’ll consume her if she lets me.
Ambition. Passion. Betrayal.Rita Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the epic first installment of the All the King’s Men Duet.
Raised to rule, bred to lead and weaned on a diet of ruthless ambition.
In a world of haves and have nots, my family has it all, and I want nothing to do with it.
My path takes me far from home and paints me as the black sheep. At odds with my father, I’m determined to build my own empire. I have rules, but Lennix Hunter is the exception to every one of them. From the moment we meet, something sparks between us. But my family stole from hers and my father is the man she hates most. I lied to have her, and will do anything to keep her. Though she tries to hate me, too, the inexorable pull between us will not be denied.
And neither will I.
Jessica’s Review
Kennedy Ryan is easily one of my favorite writers today because she not only delivers the most devastatingly delicious love stories but she’s just so damn SMART. She invites real world issues into her romances and sees her characters through complicated personal journeys, through intensely romantic strife, while brilliantly illustrating women’s issues, social injustices, and inequality. She writes unforgettable, soul searing love stories while highlighting social themes that are both relevant and important. And as a reader that needs her novels to feel BIGGER than your garden variety romantic escape, I was GIDDY over the way Kennedy Ryan nailed it once again with The Kingmaker, a decadent love story that feels equal parts satisfyingly romantic and poignantly impactful.
I absolutely adored the way this story was paced. These characters connect and reconnect at pivotal points in their lives and the angst and intensity that brings them together and watches them fall apart was everything I crave in a great book. Lennix and Maxim are social crusaders, determined to do their part to make the world better, and their respective crusades find their paths intersecting in ways they’d never anticipate. It made for a story full of sexual tension, a relentless war of emotional tumult, blistering heartache, and an epic account of fate… all rounded out in the most jaw-dropping ending I NEVER SAW COMING.
This author knows how to flesh out a character, how to craft a profoundly nuanced storyline that melds and flows seamlessly. Lennix’s heartache, her grief, her determination are these fiercely palpable things on these pages and they come full circle in her resistance against Maxim Cade. It hurt so good, their push and pull. It seared so deep, the grim realities these characters are determined to fight against.
The Kingmaker is all the things… SEXY, steamy, smart and loaded with angst. But more, it’s eye opening, thought provoking, and wickedly sharp. Somehow Kennedy Ryan illustrated a blindingly captivating romance while representing every side, every perspective, every angle on the issues of climate change, capitalism, discrimination, land dispossession, resource exploitation, and politics. It’s remarkable what she does here and again I’ve come away BEYOND IMPRESSED, moved, changed, awe inspired, BLOWN AWAY. Lennix and Maxim’s story is one I highly recommend and I’m absolutely SALIVATING for what’s to come for them!
