A million dollar chess piece goes missing hours before the auction.
Anders Sorenson will do anything to get it back. His family name and fortune rests on finding two inches of medieval ivory. Instead he finds an injured woman with terrible secrets.
He isn't letting her go until she helps him find the piece. But there's more at stake in this strategic game of lust and danger. When she confesses everything, he might lose more than his future. He might lose his heart.
For readers familiar with Tanglewood, The Bishop will read like a deliciously dangerous little bonus to the wholly addictive series. For readers unfamiliar with this particular Skye Warren storyline, this short standalone will act as an intriguing introduction to the dark and sinful world of money, violence and a strategically sensual game of lust and debauchery. The Bishop follows the good doctor and a mysterious woman who holds all the answers he seeks. It’s a fast paced, refreshingly outside-the-box novella and I devoured it in a sitting.

What I enjoyed most about Anders’ story was watching the events unfold from his perspective. With the story being told through alternating points of view, we’re granted insight into every character involved and it offered up such a different vibe than the other books written in this world. Readers that have read previous Tanglewood novels know what it’s like as the heroine finds herself teetering on the edge of the unknown, a pawn caught in the crosshairs of the men who control the game. But through Anders’ inner monologue we can see his gentler side, the true nature of his thoughts despite the often dark, more vicious actions those feelings hide behind. It was so good and it made me look at Gabriel and Damon and their terrifying, cruel behavior much differently.
The thing with these 1001 Dark Nights novellas is that it’s just so hard to feel like you’ve experienced a thoroughly fleshed out storyline in so few pages. It is bound to feel rushed at times, full of insta- attraction and a fast paced build. I admit that I’ve definitely struggled with that fact in the past but with The Bishop, I just buckled in and let it unfold. I enjoyed it for exactly what it was… a taste… a sinful bite meant to be devoured fast and whole. It was exactly what I was in the mood for today and it reminded me of exactly why I love the Tanglewood world so much. This story is suspenseful, sinful, sexy and unexpected and it’s all wrapped up in a decadent, fast-paced package I think readers new and old will enjoy.
