Making a Murderer meets Scandal in this story of police corruption, family secrets, and illicit affairs from bestselling author K.A. Tucker, celebrated for her “propulsive plot twists and searing seduction” (USA TODAY).
Noah Marshall has known a privileged and comfortable life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that's been rattling in her closet for years, and succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family's life. Reeling with grief, Noah is forced to carry the burden of this shocking secret.
Gracie Richards wasn't born in a trailer park, but after fourteen years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it's all she knows anymore. At least here people don't care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop, murdered in a drug deal gone wrong. Here, she and her mother are just another family struggling to survive...until a man who clearly doesn't belong shows up on her doorstep.
Despite their differences, Noah and Gracie are searching for answers to the same questions, and together, they set out to uncover the truth about the Austin Police Department's dark and messy past. But the scandal that emerges is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.
Complex, gritty, sexy, and thrilling, Keep Her Safe solidifies K.A. Tucker's reputation as one of today's most talented new voices in romantic suspense.
I can’t even properly explain how well done this book was, how fully engrossing this storyline is. Tucker meticulously crafts this unputdownable storyline of the grown children of two dead police officers left to piece together the fragments of the past, both hoping to clear their respective parent’s names while battling the reality that they may have to accept that they actually died dirty cops.
5 “This Was Everything” Stars.
This storyline had me COMPLETELY RIVETED. KA Tucker takes her reader on a spellbinding journey of suspense and intrigue in Keep Her Safe and I couldn’t put it down. I was RAPT, completely consumed as long buried truths are unearthed in these pages, as justice is sought. There are just no words. I was mesmerized, intoxicated by the search for evidence, the unlocking of clues, the painstaking war between the bad apples and those who are willing to fight for what’s right. This story is one twist and turn and shocking revelation after another, but it’s all pieced together so seamlessly. This is masterful, what KA Tucker does in Keep Her Safe. I couldn’t get enough. The build in this book is utter perfection and even more brilliant is what’s layered been the lines of this crime drama. The undeniable emotion, the raw heartache, the despair for all that’s been lost, the fear of never knowing the truth warring with the grim reality that you may not actually like what you find. It’s perfect and satisfying and so well done what Tucker does here in this story and I can’t say that enough.
I’ll admit I never read the blurb before I started reading this book. KA Tucker is one of my go-to authors where I feel comfortable enough going in blind knowing full well she could rewrite the phone book and it’d be breathtaking. With that said, I’ll also admit that the last time I read a suspense novel by Tucker, I went in assuming there’d be some romantic element woven into the storyline and when I didn’t find one, I came away the tiniest bit disappointed. So I learned my lesson and I went into this book knowing, as it was also listed as a suspense, I shouldn’t expect a love story. And truth be told, I would’ve been just as satisfied with this story if there wasn’t one. Keep Her Safe is an addictive page turner without the romance. It held me rapt, consumed with finding the truth, with finding closure for these characters, with getting to the bottom of this harrowing journey that ruined lives and caused so many years of pain. The romance between Noah and the girl he must keep safe was just a bonus. A delightfully sweet bonus that put the icing on what was already an absolutely delicious cake. Keep Her Safe is the full package, an exquisitely well written story that had me on the edge of my seat and left my broken heart completely overflowing with hope in the end. It’s a beautifully captivating romance woven together brilliantly with a suspenseful thrill ride and it’s unequivocally a new favorite from this author.
