It should have been easy.
I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.

Midnight Blue is my absolute favorite book from L.J. Shen. This rockstar romance is undeniably Shen’s best work… her writing is stellar, her storytelling is at its finest and her character development is just fantastic.

Jessica’s Review

4 “Yes. This.” Stars!!

Midnight Blue is my absolute favorite book from LJ Shen. This rockstar romance is undeniably Shen’s best work… her writing is stellar, her storytelling is at its finest and her character development is just fantastic. My only only only critique of this book (and it’s honestly more with myself than the book) is that I was desperately longing for a deeper connection with the story than the one I actually had. I really enjoyed this book, I couldn’t put it down, and I can’t name a single thing I would change about it, which is why I’m so frustrated by the fact that I didn’t feel… more.

There’s so much on these pages to feel. These characters are a mess. They’re both wounded, struggling to recover from their own personal devastation. Together they’re a firestorm of heartache and desperation. They’re also unbelievably sexy together and their chemistry is off the chain. Everything about the dynamic between the world famous rockstar and the woman hired to be his sobriety companion is what our romance novel dreams are made of. They hate each other, they crave each other, they have no future, they could have everything, but instead they’re an absolute disaster waiting to happen. It’s a seriously angsty book, so well done. I just wanted to feel my heart break, wanted to feel that angst in a deeper level than I did.

I was so excited to jump into this book after hearing so many of my trusted book friends say that this book gave them allllllllll the feels. And they were not wrong. Midnight Blue is certainly an emotional read. Alex Winslow is a broken mess. He’s famous and heartbroken and he’s an addict. He’s also deliciously magnetic and a phenomenal talent. He’s just broken. So so so broken. The chapters written from his point of view make this whole book. I love India, everything about her. But Alex’s perspective is so gritty, so raw, sometimes funny, always fresh. I wish I could’ve lived in his head for another 50 chapters.

I’ve not read every LJ Shen book yet but of those that I have read, Midnight Blue is what this author should be most proud of. The slow burn of this romance, the entire arc of the story, from where they began to where they end up, and every twist and turn in between was SO. WELL. DONE. I was hoping for some Thoughtless type feels in this rocker romance and I missed that. I wanted to be fully engulfed by this book the way all my friends were and I felt like I was held more at arms length. But it doesn’t change the fact that the view was spectacular from where I was sitting.

About the Author

L.J. Shen is an International #1 best-selling author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She lives in Northern California with her husband, young son and chubby cat. Before she’d settled down, L.J. (who thinks referring to herself in the third person is really silly, by the way) traveled the world, and collected friends from all across the globe. Friends who’d be happy to report that she is a rubbish companion, always forgets peoples’ birthdays and never sends Christmas cards.
She enjoys the simple things in life, like spending time with her family and friends, reading, HBO, Netflix and internet-stalking Stephen James. She reads between three to five books a week and firmly believes Crocs shoes and mullets should be outlawed.
