Singapore Pools Lotteries

The statutory board of Lottery Singapore, also known as Singapore Pools, organizes three major lotteries in the country: Toto, 4D and Singapore Sweep. It has more than 300 outlets throughout the island that facilitate ticket purchases and payment of prize money.

Singapore Pools is a government-owned lottery operator that has been in operation since 1968. The firm conducts a variety of lottery games and generates revenue for social and charitable causes.

Unlike most other lottery operators, Singapore Pools does not charge its winners any additional taxes. Moreover, the entry price for the lottery is very affordable, especially when compared to other major lotteries worldwide.

Scams Against the Public

Police have warned about a lottery scam that is being carried out by religious figures. The group targets their victims through unsolicited messages on WhatsApp or social media platforms. These messages often claim that the victims have won big money in the lottery.

The scammers then ask the victim to transfer a sum of money or pay various administrative fees before they can receive their winnings. In some cases, these scammers even disappear, leaving the victims in a state of fear and uncertainty.

The Straits Times reports that the police have identified at least 55 people who have lost SG$507,000 (US$376,896) to the scheme. To avoid being caught in a similar scam, police recommend the use of the ScamShield app and to be careful about who you send your money to.
