Lottery Singapore

The Singapore lottery has been a staple in the country since its inception. It is the only legal gambling service offered by the government.

Since 1968, Singapore Pools has been the leading provider of lotteries in Singapore. Today, the company is a state-owned corporation. In addition to its main product, the Toto lottery, it also offers the popular Sweep game.

Singapore’s Toto lottery is the largest in the country. Each week the progressive jackpot increases until it is claimed.

If no winner has been spotted in the last four consecutive draws, the jackpot rolls down. Prizes are then distributed among the lower tier prize winners.

The Singapore lottery is available online. A person can purchase a ticket from any online vendor. However, purchasing a ticket is only legal if it is done from a Singapore-based operator.

Before placing a wager, an individual must check if the operator has a license to run a lottery. Anyone who places a wager with an unlicensed operator can be fined up to SGD10,000. Alternatively, they can be jailed.

A spokesman from the Tote Board said that the amount of bets on lotteries increased in the last financial year. He noted that the restrictions introduced by COVID-19 in 2020/21 have contributed to this.

Another key factor contributing to strong lottery results is the increase in betting on sports. Sports betting includes bets on football and motor racing. This translates to an increase in gambling spending in Singapore.
